Blackburn Ramble Bandana

This project came about when Robin Sansom, then at Blackburn Design, asked if we could produce a bandana takeaway while on the 4 day, 300 plus mile Ramble Ride. The idea was to concept, draw and screen print all while on the ride. Old school and cutty methods to make the screen were applied. This is how it worked:

Day one- Collect reference along the route. After 80 or so miles riding, draw image directly onto a blank screen with resist. You have one shot. Let dry in your tent.

Day two- Coat screen with stop-out and let dry.

Day three- Find a water source to wash out screen. Local hose, drinking fountain/water bottles, or streams.

Day four- Sprint to finish ahead of group, set up at end of ride final meal, usually always in rain or wind, and print 50 or so bandanas.

As we would print, the image would deteriorate, making all prints slightly unique.
